Saw Jack Neo's Home Run today. amazingly it kinda impressed me and left an impact. at first, i refused to watch it in the cinemas cos i saw the Iranian original, Children of Heaven. actually Mr Tan, our JC1 GP tutor showed it to us and left all the 09 girls in a mess of tears. Children was really simple and slow but damn nice... but wat caught me for Home Run was the adaption to local context and other stuff added in. i thought jack neo actually wanted to add more layers to the original story. haha.. like everything should be resolved diplomatically like no 打架 way of resolving conflicts. very singaporean hoh. but i like the part abt shoes being different meanings to diff ppl and esp the boy boy whose papa owns a shoe shop as opposed to the poor boy boy and poor girl girl. well the girl acted really well i mus say, deserving of the golden horse but the iranian girl even more 可怜. but one thing i found really funny. the rich boy in the end went to england to study cos his studies not good. which i feel is kinda a snub at those who goes overseas. haha... snub at mr lee ah yew and the scholars? anyway i really like the whole kampong and community feel. i guess it's also a nostalgia movie for jack neo. and kinda teaching kids now to appreciate wat they have and also how was it like then. but interestingly he chose 1965 as a background. haha.. and emil chau as the police man in the riot scene damn funny lah. guess tat scene was like violence can easily tear a dream or a hope apart. like the totally gone shoe. haha... and the lesson abt competition is tat frenship at the end of the day is more important than who wins. correcting our kiasu mentality? i like the ending better for home run. it's more hopeful, although yeah obstacles still lies ahead. children was more bleak. i rem the last scene was the boy and his sis sitting by the pond they wash their stuff in. haha.. well now i appreciate local productions more i guess. the scenery very nice too. dun need big shots like zhang yimou or whoever to come up with brilliant works. anyway his movies are getting crappy. haha.. ok will catch 3 good men.
